Laboratory medicine is the branch of medicine concerned with disease processes, their causes and natural history, laboratory diagnosis, therapy where applicable, laboratory monitoring of therapy and, in some cases, surveillance of communicable disease. In the Faculty of Laboratory Medicine, four (4) branches are recognized. These are Anatomic Pathology, Chemical Pathology, Haematology and Medical Microbiology. Immunology features to a variable degree in all four (4) branches.
The Faculty offers training programmes in all four disciplines leading to a Fellowship in Laboratory Medicine, with assessments at the Membership Part 1 and 2 and Fellowship levels.
