Neurosurgery

The programme covers infectious, congenital, oncologic, traumatic, autoimmune, degenerative, demyelinating, and cosmetic neurologic problems amenable to surgery or other interventions. It is aimed at resourcing the resident  with skills and knowledge to manage these conditions with the aim of achieving cure, improving function, re-establishing function, or arresting disease progression.

It is a discipline which has integrated the essentials of several medical specialties into a new whole for the purpose of caring for the medical needs of several people at a given time. Its approach to patient care is holistic, seeing the individual in his own totality and in the context of his family and community.

The residency training is in two parts: membership level and fellowship level.  The resident should display competency in membership level before progressing to the next.
