The Adolescent Mental, Sexual and Reproductive Health and Wellbeing Policy, Program and Primary Care Implementation Priorities in West Africa Project dubbed the AdoWa project held its first Technical Meeting in Accra, Ghana at the Alisa Hotel from Friday 7th October to Saturday 8th October, 2022. The meeting brought together stakeholders from Niger, Burkina Faso and Ghana to deliberate on the progress made so far as well as activities to look forward to.
The objectives of the meeting included presenting and reviewing current research findings in relation to the study objectives and by work packages by the country teams as well as facilitate peer to peer cross-country exchange, knowledge sharing and learning; enabling discussions about synergies between qualitative and quantitative work; planning for cross-country publications and discussing challenges being faced by country teams and how to resolve them.
The Principal Investigator of the project, Prof. Irene Agyepong of the Dodowa Health Research Center – Ghana Health Service, encouraged all partners to keep up with the good work whilst keeping the lines of communication open and succinct in order to achieve the overall goal of the project.
The goal of the project is to generate evidence to inform country and sub-regional policy development, advocacy, priority setting, implementation (and de-implementation) for improved adolescent mental, sexual and reproductive health, and wellbeing in the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) (West Africa). This multi-country project is being implemented in Burkina Faso, Ghana, and Niger, all in West Africa.
The AdoWa project is funded by the United Kingdom Research Institutes Medical Research Council (UKRI MCI) with the Ghana College of Physicians and Surgeons as the Awardee. The project began on 1st December 2020 and is set to be complemented by 30th November 2023.
